Favourite Places - Orangeville, Shelburne, Dufferin CountyFavourite Places, Photos, Orangeville, Shelburne, Dufferin County … Exploring the backroads of Dufferin County where many of my self-inflicted and often ill-advised expeditions have been forever embedded within memories of sweaty palms and white knuckles.  How many times have I thrown my GPS into a rant of confusion as it tried to locate 4th Line Melancthon of which there are four.  The hard lesson learned that Luther Marsh is no place to experiment with shortcuts in the middle of the night.  How many newcomers and/or out of town real estate agents have been seduced by soft shoulders that appear to be wider than they are – unaware that Melancthon snowplow drivers love to fill in the ditches when clearing the roads.  Take heed the next time you are looking for adventure within the hills and dales of Mulmur Township – when a sign says “Road Closed” there is usually a very good reason laying in wait, but not until you are out of cell phone range. Speaking of Mulmur, is there a sweeter sight than the large cross at Black Bank as it guides you home during a mid-winter whiteout?  It hasn’t been all been bad though.  I don’t think there’s anything better than cruising down River Road or Hockley Road when not in any particular rush to get to Point B.  Orangeville has become quite the town for summer activities such as Ribfest and the Blues & Jazz Festival.  Shelburne has Fiddle Weekend and worm charming.  And Island Lake is an absolute gift.  Among the lessons learned over the years, always have a camera at hand – because that one time you don’t will be the day you see some crazy guy driving up the Grand River in his jeep.  Here are some occasions when I did remember to have a camera handy.
